2026 Grade 4 Rationalized Oxford Our Lives Today Social Studies Lesson Plans – Term 3

The topics covered are organized under two main strands:

• STRAND: Citizenship
  • Sub-Strand: Good citizenship in school
    • Discussing the qualities of a good citizen, such as honesty, respect, and responsibility.
    • Identifying ways to demonstrate good citizenship through actions like following school rules and helping others.
    • Learning about the positive and responsible use of digital devices in school.
  • Sub-Strand: Human rights – Forms of child abuse
    • Identifying and discussing cultural practices that are harmful to children, such as early marriage and FGM.
    • Understanding child labour as a form of abuse.
    • Learning where and how to report child abuse (to parents, teachers, police, or child helplines).
    • Exploring the effects of child abuse on a child’s health, emotions, and education.
  • Sub-Strand: Human rights – Child rights
    • Identifying child rights (e.g., right to education, right to play) and their corresponding responsibilities.
  • Sub-Strand: Peace & Peace Education Project
    • Identifying factors that promote peace in school, like sharing and forgiveness.
    • Planning and carrying out a class-based peace education project, such as a poster campaign or creating a “Peace Corner.”
• STRAND: Governance in Kenya
  • Sub-Strand: Democracy in School
    • Defining democracy and identifying its practice in school, such as electing student leaders.
    • Discussing the benefits of democracy, including fairness and peace.
    • Role-playing the process of a school election.
  • Sub-Strand: Children’s Government in School
    • Understanding the structure of the Children’s Government (Student Council).
    • Identifying the titles and duties of student leaders (prefects).
    • Learning how to support the Children’s Government.
  • Sub-Strand: The County Government in Kenya
    • Learning the composition of the County Government, including the roles of the Governor and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).
    • Identifying sources of revenue for the county and the services it provides.
• STRAND: ALL
  • Activity: End of Term Assessment
    • Revision of all topics covered during the term.
    • Administration of the formal end-of-term examinations.
