The assessment  assesses the following practical skills and knowledge areas:

• Question 1: Investigation of Dissolution Rate
  • This question requires learners to investigate the factors that affect the rate at which a solid dissolves in a liquid.
  • Students are guided to test the effects of temperature (using warm and cold water) and particle size (using sugar crystals and powdered sugar).
  • Skills assessed include following a procedure, recording observations in a table, drawing conclusions from results, and identifying the basic science skills and safety precautions applied during the experiment.
• Question 2: Measuring Volume of an Irregular Object
  • This question requires learners to determine the volume of an irregular rock sample using the displacement method.
  • Candidates need to record the initial and final volumes of water in a measuring cylinder to calculate the rock’s volume.
  • The assessment focuses on accurate measurement, calculation, and understanding the scientific principle behind the method.
