The Lesson Plans are organized under the following strands and substrands:
- Number Concept
- Position of objects in number symbols and words – Identifying ordinal positions from 1st to 20th (first to twentieth) in athletic races, queues, and birth order
- Whole Numbers
- Counting forward and backward in tens from 1 to 1000 using counters and number lines
- Reading numbers 1 to 1000 in symbols
- Reading and writing numbers 1 to 100 in words (spelling compound tens: twenty-four, forty-seven, eighty-nine)
- Number patterns up to 1000 – Determining pattern rules and working out missing numbers
- Addition
- Adding a 3-digit number to a 2-digit number vertically and horizontally with regrouping from ones to tens (sum not exceeding 1000)
- Adding two 3-digit numbers without regrouping
- Adding two 3-digit numbers with regrouping from ones to tens, and from tens to hundreds using place value charts, abacuses, and tins
- Addition number patterns up to 1000
- Subtraction
- Subtracting a 3-digit number from a 3-digit number with regrouping from tens to ones
- Subtracting two 3-digit numbers with regrouping from hundreds to tens
- Subtraction number patterns up to 1000
- Multiplication and Division
- Multiplying single-digit numbers by 10 as repeated addition
- Dividing 2-digit numbers by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 without remainders using counters and multiplication table links
- Fractions
- Eighth as part of a group – Identifying, folding, and shading 1/8 of shapes and sets of objects
- Measurement
- Length – Adding and subtracting length in metres (m) vertically and horizontally, including classroom measurement drills
- Mass – Adding and subtracting mass in kilograms (kg) using balances and classroom model shop parcels
- Capacity – Adding, subtracting, and estimating liquid capacity up to 5 litres (L) using 1-litre containers
- Time – Adding and subtracting time in hours and minutes without conversion; estimating activity durations in hours; reading and writing time using “minutes past” and “minutes to” the hour on analogue and digital clocks
- Money – Converting Kenyan currency denominations up to Sh. 1000 (notes and coins); creating 3-item shopping lists, finding total cost, and calculating change/balance
- Geometry
- Modelling combined shapes – Constructing composite 2D and 3D shapes (e.g., triangle on rectangle, cylinder with cone) using clay, plasticine, and cardboard
